Abolishing The Death Penalty:
A Black and White Issue
The Mission
The death penalty is an archaic practice that has been used for many years and in many different ways by groups of people that today we would find barbaric. However, we in America are no better. Legal capital punishment makes us all accomplices to murder. It only supports our current culture of violence and makes it seem like revenge is an acceptable motive for doing things. But it isn't. Our society is already plagued by violence and revenge, and it is negatively impacting our lives, especially the lives of our children, who are growing up and learning from us and their surroundings. We should be teaching our children to celebrate and respect the dignity of human life, not take it away. Capital punishment is an injustice that has been allowed to exist for too long, and it is up to us as a society to get capital punishment abolished. We as a unified society, especially members of the next generation of voters, need to decide to change our legacy from one that supports violence and revenge to one that promotes peace and human rights, so that our legislators will follow our example and pass a Constitutional Amendment abolishing the death penalty.
